Dr. Rex Fortune

Dr. Rex Fortune's major involvement is as Executive Director of Project Pipeline, a Teacher Alternative Certification and Hiring program. Dr. Rex Fortune is the Founder of Project Pipeline headquartered in Sacramento, California. He retired in July 2003 from Center Unified School District, where he served as superintendent for fifteen years. Prior to Center, Dr. Fortune was superintendent of the Inglewood Unified School District and earlier the Associate Superintendent of Public Instruction for the California State department of Education for eleven years.

Dr. Fortune received his Bachelor of Science from A&T State University in North Carolina; his Master of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley; and his doctorate in Education from Stanford University.

Dr. Fortune co-authored a book based on research conducted in four California school districts called Leadership on Purpose: Promising Practices for African American and Hispanic Students. He also produced the Leadership on Purpose DVD.

Dr. Rosemary Papalewis

Dr. Rosemary Papalewis is Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS), and serves as the Director of the University’s Center for Teaching and Learning, working with faculty across all disciplines and colleges. Prior to coming to CSUS, she held positions as the Western Region Vice President for Sylvan Learning Systems, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for InterInstitutional Relations for the California State University System, and Professor and Co-Founding Director for the Joint Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership of California State University, Fresno, and the University of California. She has also served as a teacher at the K-12 level (California) and as Principal and Chief Administrator (private schools in Nebraska).

Dr. Papalewis is a Past President of both the National Association of Professors of Educational Administration and the California Association of Professors of Educational Administration (two terms). She recently ended her term representing the California State University as Vice-Chair and Commissioner on the California Student Aid Commission and Board Chair of the Commission’s auxiliary, EdFund, a $2.2 billion student lending service. Dr. Papalewis actively serves as a consultant to school districts, California National Guard youth programs, and corporate (both for-profit and nonprofit) educational companies. She is an active researcher, having published and presented in the areas of K-12 and higher education leadership, joint doctoral programs, teacher training, mentoring, women in administration, and, most recently, technology in university teaching.
