Empowering Parents
WHAT CHANGES OCCUR WHEN PARENTS ARE ACTIVELY INVOLVED WITH THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION? WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?
Research has established that students succeed more when their parents or guardians are involved. Our Parent Academy Evaluation Report for March 2018 shows that students performed better on local and national academic assessments in mathematics and English Arts, if their parents participated in that organization’s Parent Academy.
Fortune and Associates’ Parent Academy provides parents with information and tools that will improve parents’ ability to assist their children at home with educational experiences designed to enhance their students’ performance at school, helping to close the academic achievement gap. The goal of Fortune and Associates’ Parenting Practices booklets, videos and training binders is to enhance the ability of parents to take action that will improve the attendance, behavior and academics of their children to prepare their kids for a future life that includes college and career. Parents also gain information regarding the importance of what they do at home with their school age kids can improve the academic progress of their children at school. Parents will also become aware of how they can be involved at school to assist with the effectiveness of the schooling experience for their children. Our Bridging the Achievement Gap-Second Edition book includes a chapter on parents, where parents from three schools describe their strategies for maintaining effective communications with their child’s teachers, and how they are confident that their child benefits from those relationships.
